New 7 seater SUV for under £30k: SEAT TARRACO
It’s never easy to make a big car look truly sporty, but with their new 7 seater SUV, SEAT seem to have cracked it, and for under £30,000.
It’s called the SEAT Tarraco and is a very elegant-looking vehicle as SUV’s go. So how have they done it? Well, the key seems to be in the details—the body has large dimensions but is carefully balanced by soft corners. At the same time, there’s a fairly aggressive front end that comes down to pleasingly angular headlamps (these are full LED, as are the tail lights.) It’s brought to a great finish with a nice sporty grille with chrome inserts. Oh, and a set of 20” alloy wheels provides the final flourish.
The inspiration for this latest design from SEAT would seem to stem from ancient times; at least, that’s what the name might imply; Tarraco is the ancient name for the Spanish port city now known as Tarragona. Whether the design team were trying to channel ancient chariots or just plucked the name out of the air we may never know, but what we can be sure of is that this is one very practical vehicle for 2019.
A smart interior—in both senses of the word
You’ve got seven seats and up to 1775 litre boot space here with the rear seats folded, making it perfect for those chaotic family trips or even just a big, ungainly shop to stow away! Speaking of which, this convenient car comes with an electric tailgate with virtual pedal for hands-free access.
Moving inside then, there’s a nice smart interior—smart in both senses of the word as it’s both highly presentable and full of tech. First then, how does it look? Well, any 7 seater SUV faces the problem of avoiding an interior that reminds you of a school minibus or a cinema: seven seats are quite simply a lot of seats to look at in one go. (It’s not like a nice, dinky two-seater!) However, clever design works a treat here. With the SEAT Tarraco, the intelligent use of a rich, dark brown trim to cut horizontal lines across and along the seats breaks up what could potentially have been a dull mass of grey. These touches subtly delineate each seat—like an architect breaking up big buildings with strategically placed little borders and inset levels.
Technology-wise, you’ve got a 10.25” Digital Cockpit for displaying maps, GPS and all those essentials. The sat-nav is easy to use—minimal faffing required. There’s also Apple CarPlay for all your infotainment on long journeys and stressful commutes.
Good UK reviews and a great price tag
The UK reviews for this latest addition to the SEAT SUV range have been positive with high ratings in particular for those all-important practical elements such as safety, reliability and security. Highlights include the shifting seats and impressive capacity they provide; the quietness within (both for slower urban traffic and motorway driving); and, of course, the price tag—a 7 seater SUV for only £26,995 is quite something.
